Venture Concept no.2

Opportunity: The children (relative term) of Gainesville need to be able to get alcohol safer and easier. Driving is a whole new step that could be a fun time with one's friends but also could end in yknow, death. So it's a good idea to knock it out. Scooters make this an easier reality to actualize, since they augment the mobility of a hypothetical delivery team that I could put together. This window of opportunity will be open for pretty much until someone actually makes something like this in Gainesville. I feel like kids (myself included) are just gonna get more lazy. So it'll be here.

Innovation: There are apps with the same idea in Los Angeles and large cities like that, but in little college towns, where the industry would probably thrive if prices could be kept reasonable, it seems a new idea. The idea being to drive around on scooters and deliver alcohol and tobacco, other vices, to people all around Gainesville. Click of a button. Probably upcharge the products like 5$ to what it's bought for, keep the company small so profits can be split and remain lucrative for al involved.

Competetion is stores that dont ID. My secret sauce is Me.

Feedback probably happened but I didnt look at it. But one idea is the whole thing is immoral and faulty.

Google Gold

1.) So I had virtually no strategy in drawing traffic to my blog, and honestly was unaware that was a goal of doing this. I put sports racers as a hashtag in the first one because I was excited for this class and like zefrank and would like to attract similar people. That's about it.

2.) I dont really use social media too much aside from facebook and tumblarina so there was no advertising. I have an addictive personality and if I use those things I waste too much time on them so I stay away. tumblrs worth it though.

3.) Ok so switch this one and number 2, woops. But my key words would be the titles of all the posts I guess, aside from just my regular patterns of speech I didn't change up my syntax at all. I'd imagine the word alcohol came up pretty frequently.

4.) My first elevator pitch did, probably some controversy on how I formatted it or something. Or people liked it.

5.) No. Because what why would that happen.

Very Short Interview, Part 2

The interview seems like a long time ago and also like I was much more serious about this class back then. Mr. Day is a cool guy.

B-How do you feel about the notion of wasting time?

J- Well if you're doing something, you may as well find a way to make it meaningful to your life, so I think that wasting time is a waste of time.

B- I'm going to be a teacher do you think thats a good idea?

J- That fits you nicely yes

B- I think the assignment meant I had to ask entrepreneur based questions but they didn't specify that so i'm not gonna. Well actually do you know how to spell entrepreneur?

J- Don't cut corners so much, also yes.

I'm a pretty comfortable person, as long as i'm talking to someone who is also comfortable in their own skin. So i'm not quite sure how to gauge if there was an increase in how comfortable I was but I was definitely ok with it. Jamie seems to be content with how i'm progressing.

Celebrating Failure

I'm a person with a good bit of anxiety, and therefore stay in my comfort zone if possible. A realm in which I fail pretty frequently is beating my friend valence at basketball. I can get him sometimes but most of the time he wins, or his team does at least. He's just quicker and better overall. He is also 29 so thats 10 years experience. I stop him better than most other ive seen at SW though. With this failure as well as the others I run across in life, I tend not to even think of them as failures. Just learning how to life better. Yes life is a verb there. I just learn to play different and mostly with more confidence when i play with Valence or anyone who is good and pushes me. Life is a series of chances. Do it. Bye.

My Exit Strategy

I plan on not doing anything that makes me feel a little dirty, for a living at least. For example, selling alcohol to people. As far as an establish a position for myself sort of thing, anything goes. So this is acceptable, especially as a hypothetical idea. But I think i'd go with the sell early thing for something like this. There's so many ways to make a living in the world, and doing something as common as easy as making a small business grow isn't really and appealing or fulfilling idea for me. This is my plan of action because morals. It didn't effect my methods of going about thinking of the venture.

Venture Concept No.1

My venture concept is Alcohome, an alcohol, and other vices, delivery service. This is an opportunistic idea to unleash in a college town seeing as the main demographic that would go for something like this is college aged students who still use poison on the frequent. That's slang, i'm hip. Anyway, the need itself is, as the kids may say, chaotic good. It's a service that could save lives, and more importantly, time for people to do more desirable things with their flesh prisons instead of going out and getting there liquified grain. This could be extremely beneficial in the fast pace society we live in today, especially in college. If Alcohome were a thing in 2009, it would've been mentioned in Asher's song. But on the flip side, it's providing people with alcohol and other means of slowly killing oneself, and making it ok to be even lazier in the means of acquiring this stuff. This however is not a tall prison, because it's easy to rationalize that people will get their fix regardless when it comes down to it. Right now, in Gainseville, people are getting friends to buy alcohol for them. Like right now as you read this I promise even if it's like 3am. This will happen no matter what. But this window of opportunity will always be open in college towns, until the opportunity is seized. This is innovative because it brings something to people that they usually have to go and get. It provides convenience and a sense of instant gratification, which people need these days. It's not life changing, but it's a neat idea that could very realistically become the norm in contemporary society. Until we like 3d print our alcohol or get injections or something better like the means to actually love ourselves and be comfortable in our skin. People will switch because it's easier. People will like the job as well i'd imagine. Competitors are shops that don't ID kids, because those are always an option. Coming up with a business would be fun. I'd imagine like 10 delivery people and some others to oversee everything runs smoothly. My secret sauce is me. I'll see something done if I want too. Next would be weed when it's legal and if this thing works in Gainesville I'd like to expand to other college towns, ideally all of them except FSU because im petty and that would be funny. And leave the market open over there for some idiot to try this and most likely crash and burn hilariously. Good Day.

Amazon Whisperer

Driver number One: Alcohol sales. This will at least in theory be the most lucrative aspect of my business. It's a college town and people are smarter and lazier than they've ever been. If words spreads it'll go well.

Driver Two: Tobacco sales. This will hopefully be a smaller denomination of the population, but people are also addicted to tobacco. So morals out the window, ill supply. it. At least they dont have to waste time and lung capacity. Or Jaw strength let's not discriminate against the dippers.

Next: Well in a few years weed will be legal. That's something that could benefit tremendously from a delivery service although im sure it'll be a fun time getting around all the contrived laws that come along with it.

Introducing weed, and maybe eventually food when enough of a name is established for it to not be a waste of investment, will only augment the purchase of everything else. The three things go together like peanut butter and jelly. And more jelly I guess because if you put too much peanut butter on then it gets all chunky and stuck in your mouth whereas jelly just makes a mess which is what this company is going to help people do to their houses.

Um there's not really anything like this on amazon. I could liken it to how people subscribe to get monthly supplies of sorts of food or protein powder to their houses. This technique has gotten pretty positive reviews, and offers freedom in choosing the quantity or ending the service, which I believe are the only two factors aside from the product itself.

My Unfair Advantage

First and Foremost: Me. Im amazing. Im taking the time now to mold myself into a person that I can live with for my whole life. Making sure to not lie to myself or pigeonhole myself into a box. Living properly and im kinda smart on Tuesdays.

Second: Drones. This is a new idea in the realm of alcohol delivery as far as my research can confirm. Also Its pretty cost effective so id say very valuable, almost as much as me. Those other three are literally the same thing. Anyone can get drones, but the proper type would be something that needs research to deduce. So I guess that works for substitutable.

Third: Ability to get family money if worst comes to worst. My family is moral and stuff so we dont have too much extra. But if worst comes to worst my dad and I are in a position in multiple instances to accrue enough money to fund any business venture. High value

Fourth: Tech capabilities. I know how to code. So the app could be pretty. That's a dime a dozen though. Although the specific stuff to come from my brain is a little bit more scarce out there in the world.

Fifth: Selling vices. It's literally selling addictive poisons. There are few things easier to market. Of course anyone else can. But not as well.

Sixth: Marketing ability.I thought I was in love like 3 times in high school. I know how to subliminal message. Plus I know a few likeable marketing and PR majors

Seventh: Agency. I have the agency to do the small things. A lack of these is a common pitfall for businesses as people get caught up in the big picture too easily.

Eighth: I can properly spell the word 8th in only three trys.

Ninth: I can bullshit if need be, as illustrated above. In numbers 1-7. I guess this one can be charisma i'm pretty charismatic when im not super anxious and in my head. That's inimitable as everyone has there own little flair and then we as a culture blanket it under the term charisma.

Tenth: I'm willing to do stupid pointless things just because I know I have to in order to stay afloat. I will be prudent, but if theres a chance inaction could harm my company in anyway, I know simply doing SOMETHING will probably help.

The first one is the most important. Whatever field I enter into I will have an unfair advantage in. Literally everything else except yourself someone else can copy. Your traits, everything. Just your subconscious self. All you got.

Elevator Pitch No. 3

The main thing I pulled from feedback on the idea that was plausible to act upon was the addition of drones to the delivery unit. Everything else was just safety related and cant really be controlled aside from choosing delivery people who are competent and tentative.

My Secret Sauce Soss

Sauce One-  I have lots of empathy. I can tell how people are feeling pretty easily and don't like it when that feeling is anything other than good or feelings in that realm. So naturally I try to help people if I see that in conversation and feel it's appropriate. So also naturally i'm very anxious all the time around all these fundamentally depressed people.

Sauce Two-  I can Portuguese. The language. Sometimes I can english as well. This helps with communicating with other human beings hailing from different places on earth, which is where (most) people live. Being bilingual affects general worldview and perception and can make the brain a sturdier control center for our sacks of flesh. Portuguese is emotional so it's made me more emotional which is totally something I did not need but it happened so I guess i'll roll with it.

Sauce 17B-  Accidental Organization skills. I just hit enter after the - thing because I decided to change up the format and I realised it makes it look a lot neater and calmer. So I switched it to all of them. Now I dont like it and will switch it back.

Sauce Roman Numeral 6-
I'm Patient.

Lol no i'm not.

Sauce one-
I accept there is no order to things and we all live in constant entropy. My chosen frame of mind. What im doing with my time. I overcame my discomfort of sitting behind a keyboard and saying why I'm great. I'm taking the time in my twenties to find out who I am so I don't have to sort through all that in my latter years. Also i'm not 20 yet but eh. I understand education is the most important thing so we can foster out apathy as a trait in our peopleness. And that it's going to take a while to fix so it's ok to maybe chill. I'm privileged enough to worry about the state of humanity rather than how i'm going to fill my stomach. I'm comfortable in my maleness and whiteness being ample fuel for keeping me afloat until I find out what the best course of action is and i'm confident in what i'm cultivating in myself now to do the rest. And I dont care i've been starting sentences with and.

I'm not interested in asking people that know me about me, they wouldn't know

Idea Napkin No.2

Me: I'm a character, or so ive been told. I tend to approach life with an aloof yet anxious attitude. I dont cover up how unsure and bumbling I am, just as we all are if were honest with ourselves, and this leads people to trust me pretty quickly if I can manage to put words together without sounding like a moron when I first meet them. The pressure to do so is astoundingly hindering. Im over empathetic and usually know more about people then they care to allow themselves to find out. Especially if we get to talking but i'm talking in terms of exformation rather than information. I can communicate well once I get over the initial anxiety of being a human, or if im in a mood that allows me to but that feeling on the back burner. This business will maybe play a role in my life but if so it'll be drowned out by the things I do of actual importance.

Offer: Im offering convenience and safety. alcohol to one's doorstep.

Who: Im assuming it'll be offered to college kids and poets/ people with drinking problems.

Why they care? They care because people are lazy and what things easy.

I set the company apart from anything else. This kind of idea isnt exactly lucrative. Or at least it hasnt proven to be so. The person spearheading it will have to make a lot of ground with wealthy individuals. I can do that. especially if they are self aware and competent, I like those kinds of people.

I feel I can out it all together. Any sort of business idea really comes down to working with and finding the right people. Im sure i can do that and woudnt trust anyone else to do it for me. Alcohol is a thing that people literally get addicted to so it would be in high demand. Maybe a little morally unscrupulous but hey, better then selling lies.

I didnt get any pertinent feedback.

The Twenty Percent

Who are your customers?
My customer base encompasses a wide range of individuals. Really anyone I come across in my day to day to life who has money and the ability to spot an honest man. Then we go from there and see if we can work together. I make sure they know a little about stocks because I dont like working with incompetent people, even if its literally me doing all the work I like to not have to explain things to a wall.

I know a few of my dads customers. They agree their unmet needs are just expertise on where to put their extra money. He meets those needs. One said to include he likes to watch Colbert.

Yeah, my dad knows what he's doing and who he is doing it for. It's really not a specific thing although most people with any sufficient funds are at least 25. It just comes down to being honest with them which means getting paid a lot less than most stock brokers. The amount of customers makes up for it though.

Week 8 reading reflection

I actually learned some of what I would herald "invaluable information" from this reading. The whole equity financing rather than debt was a whole new idea for me and it was good to learn the vocab associated with it so I can use it in the future. There are a handful of companies that have came into fruition over these past years and im sure the frequency of these will only increases, so hopefully I have the extra money to go with my gut and help them out.

Does the author recommend debt or equity financing? Given the project is nothing crazy or super new.

I liked the idea of an "angel" investor, and was thrown off/reminded of the fast past change we as a species are seeing as indicated by the lack of mention of crowd funding.

Half Way Reflection

Tenacity
Leave your inhibition at the door. This course throws a lot of menial little tasks at you, forcing you to keep a close eye on it. The Kind of things you are made to do are reminiscent of the contemporary classic logic puzzle "would you rather fight 100 duck sized horses or 1 horse sized duck?" This class clears that up quite nicely. It's a good idea to at the very least read what sort of things you ave on the agenda for the week, if you're feeling productive, knock them out then and there. Some of them take a good amount of planning and being in an environment that one may not be able to enter within a span of twenty minutes or a couple hours. So plan accordingly.

I never really think to give up. However, about 80% of the time, I try to think of a way to half ass an answer, or find an easy route around it. This has not paid off. Tenacity is an inherent trait of mine although I like to be a little less grandiose and just call it stubbornness. Interviewing people was a tough concept at first, then I just kind of swallowed my fear and walked up to strangers.

Three tips
Do the assignments early. You get a small, meaningless sense of accomplishment just like when you get some likes on an Instagram post except this time you get a grade for it which probably makes it a little bit better. This is called affirmative action and that cultivates tenacity.

Basically just remember how much you're paying for this and that should make you tenacious and show you the light.

Understand that as menial as most of this seems, it's putting you on a schedule, its making you think critically about things that maybe you wouldn't sit and think about during your day. It doesn't seem super useful at face value but you happened upon the class for a reason so you may as well put effort into it. Nothing means nothing.

Free Money

OK so I hate to bypass the rules but I found it kinda difficult to be like here's a dollar also a camera in your face while you take it. But it's totally just because I want to be nice. So none of that, but I gave away five dollars im pretty sure that's not something a class can make you do by like, law. So live with it.

Clothing is a good indicator of how acceptable people will be to take a dollar. Don't offer to the fratly dressed on account of pride.

If you smile it helps. Especially if the best idea you care to use is "I feel nice today".

I feel it'd be easier with more than one dollar because one dollar is not that big a deal and people feel thrown off.

I just walked around my apartment complex and found people.

Customer Interviews no. 3

Here's a picture of how I cant upload videos and am not about to troubleshoot because you arent watching them anyway.

This time I just asked people around my apartment complex to save time since I knew it woudnt work anyway :) I told them it was the last week of interviews and all they had to do was read this short note, look up, and give me a quick reaction. 3/5 said it would be great 2 said it would be unsafe and one of the two gave me an idea to use drones to help safety problems. I've seen a trend of niceness from girls and conflicting opinions from short guys. I've learned people are initially hesitant to say they drink unless you preface that it's completely ok and expected.

Idea Napkin No.1

Step one. Me.

Hello, i'm Brian. My talents are anything once i'm motivated and my weakness is being difficult to motivate. That's a cop out. I'm empathetic and like making people smile. I can think around problems and find easy solutions to difficult tasks, in the hopes of making less work for myself. I want to make everyone on the planet love each other and im totally not an idealist. This comp'ny would help that because alcohol.  It would potentially save lives and prevent drunk driving. It would be a platform for me to do things I actually want to and provide my means of living whilst doing so. (money).

Step Two. Offer!

Sin. I'm offering convenience and safety in acquiring alcohol and tobacco and whatever else my employees decide to tell the drunk people they deliver too that they are selling. This is safe.

Step Three. Who?

Hopefully people under 30. Those who dont have the foresight to stock up before a night of drinking and who, when their alcohol source is depleted, cant think "ok time to be done drinking because being sober is ok" and who need more. Really anyone who wants alcohol and is busy/otherwise encumbered and cant be bothered to go get some.

Step four. Who cares?

Everyone is lazy. Without a drive thru McDonalds wouldn't be popular. Yeah bold claim, quote me. So im taking it one step further, not only do you not have to get out of your car to get this service, you can stay in bed. As long as your door is unlocked if it's locked you have to get that.

Step Five. Y U special?

I'm way too nice. I have two eyes, two nostrils, and one ear. Wait two ears as well. I can stand on one leg for like TWENTY minutes. Ok realistically I have quite a bit of vision and passion to help people and while this may be detrimental to the short term well being of people, it will create many a memory for kids, and give me time to work on things to actually help humans. When I set my mind on something I forget on is a word and also I get dyslexic.

The business venture is far fetched. I'd need 10,000$ for a liquor license, I'd need a lot more for storage, product, and henchman(employees). Organization wouldn't be difficult, two days tops. From what ive heard, people love the idea. If it could be priced reasonably, and the 11pm liquor law somehow worked around by the fact the company wouldn't be a liquor store, which I could probably do, it could be tremendous. Or I could waste my time putting sounds together.

Interviewing Customers No.2 AlcoHome

My who in this assignment didnt really need to be fine tuned as were on a college campus so the demand is very much there.

The questions were simple and the idea seemed to stick pretty immediately and the only potential problems I can see with the venture are legal issues and finances

I asked
How do you get your alcohol?
Would you consider this convenient?
Would you consider a delivery service using bikes and scooters to bypass Gainesville's traffic problem a more desirable method?
How much would you be willing to pay for delivery?

I cant put video on here for whatever reason but it just puts up 5 blank things.

I'm starting to get a more concrete understanding of what it is i'm suggesting here and looking into the logistics of actually bringing it into fruition.

When interviewing customers, make sure to smile and seem friendly. Always tell them it's ok to say no. Make them comfortable, give them a massage and foot rub. Refrain from roasting their outfit. Don't talk to people with headphones in, take bodily cues when someone doesnt want to be bothered and be mindful of people who are very obviously anxious and dont add additional stressors to their lives. Be casual. It's just a human.

Week 5 Reading Reflection

The thing that resonated with me most from the reading was the importance of proper timing, as that is always something that has been difficult for me, it was good to have it acknowledged as important.

I liked the stressing of the importance of the availability of a market to sell too.

The feasibility criteria approach thing was a little confusing for me at first.

2 Questions:

What is a good method to gauge whether or not there is a proper customer base?

How long until one should be worried if sales are not going well?

Elevator Pitch No.1- Alchohome

We are Alchohome. Our CEO, Brian Glennon, identified a tremendous problem troubling communities everywhere and we have dedicated our lives to fixing it. The opportunity in question is that of a mobile alcohol delivery service. Alcohol is the one thing that if you need MORE of, its probably safe to assume you definitely shouldn't drive to get it. Is that going to stop a drunk you from doing whatever is in your power from getting more ethanol into your bloodstream? Probably not.

So we decided to give you some more power.

There's going to be an app for delivery. There's going to be a storage house, maybe multiple if expansion happens. There's going to be someone with 10,000$ so we can get a liquor license. We have people ride around on bikes, or scooters, cars for big orders, and deliver alcohol tobacco and anything else i'm forgetting at the moment that is legal and people like to use to slowly kill themselves.

Top Five World Problems

List One:
1.) Lack of access to clean water. This is a basic Human need. The most basic. It needs to be addressed for the people to have enough energy to go about their individual lives, which would then benefit all of society in ways no one can understand since all this potential brilliance is being starved out.
2.) Hunger. A close contender to water, but the same area of importance. The same implications.
3.) Ignorance/hate. "The biggest problem in the universe is no one helps each other"-Anakin Skywalker, episode one.
4.)Climate Change. This can only still be reversed for a small time longer. It'd be nice to have a planet still.
5.) Mistreatment of animals. Animals are living things. We cant stop at just treating people right, for the people to be happy and ok with themselves love has to be spread indefinitely, and to everything, sentient or not. Sentient is a good place to start.

List Two
1.) Literally just start allocating resources for space travel. It's as simple as a redirection of interest. Stop fighting each other and fight the unknown. That's what most of us are really scared of anyway.
2.) Use land not covered in bush for industry. Lessen dependence on paper. It's also a simple transition and a lessening of greed that would improve the quality of life for everyone, even those who lose monetary benefits from implementing it.
3.) Get clean water to people. Water isn't too difficult to purify anymore. It isn't too difficult to get a hold of. With some organization, we could get it to the places where it is difficult to get a hold of.
4.)Get food, and food that wont kill them, to people. Food can be stored inexpensively in third world countries thanks to improvements in technology. Now just to get it there.
5.) Educate people on rape culture and how silence is just as bad as being an aggressor. Complacency is dangerous. Education is not too difficult of a task, show people the benefits of not being a bad person, and many will fall in line.

Week 3 Reading Reflection

My biggest surprise was that technically by what was said, i fit under a type A personality almost as much as under a type B personality, with my talking fast and sense of urgency for time.

The idea of unrealistic optimism kind of confused me. I understand certain ideas wont be able to get off the ground easily but I feel mostly everything can be done if you have society on your side(which is the hard part) and have the resourcefulness to go make it happen.

Two questions for the author:
1.) Do you have any advice on how to balance the desire for profit/risk and activity factor. Tips on opportunity cost? Correlation studies showing wealth and happiness?

2.)What would be your idea of unrealistic optimism in a new venture?

I guess I disagree on the possibility of being unrealistic or that that eventuality could be a bad thing. If anything it could open new doors for everyone. No one knows everything, there's much to be proven wrong.

Identifying Local Opportunities

1.)Dogs Patronize Gainesville restaurants, never pick up tab.

http://www.gainesville.com/article/20160121/ARTICLES/160129926/1003/NEWS?Title=Dogs-patronize-Gainesville-restaurants-never-pick-up-tab

The article describes the growing trend to allow dogs, and other animals, into diners here despite it being illegal under state law. It gets into anecdotal cases of pet loving, and possible repercussions of jumping the gun and letting dogs in before a permit is obtained.

The problem in the story is all the paperwork and money needed for a perfectly good dog to live it's life and eat in a fine dining establishment.

I think its the dogs. Sure the restaurants assume all of the risk and have to do all the work, but it's unfortunate that dogs cant just show up at chipotle and get a burrito.

2.)As Mexican frustrations rise, so does number of lynchings

http://www.tampabay.com/news/world/as-mexican-frustrations-rise-so-does-number-of-lynchings/2262560

The article speaks on lynchings carried out on two brothers who were conducting a survey in a town in mexico.

The problem is violence stemming from stereotypes and fear.

The Mexican people, and the brothers who were killed.

3.)St.Petersburg approves proposal that allows the rays to consider stadium sites outside the area.

http://www.tampabay.com/news/localgovernment/live-now-st-pete-city-council-discusses-rays-plan-at-special-meeting/2250870

This article is controversial around my hometown because people love having the option to go somewhere close and watch men hit a ball with a stick IN PERSON rather than from their home. The rays might be based elsewhere than tropicana and no one is ready for it

The problem is a franchise being given freedom to do what they want

The people of St.Petersburg are presented with the real problem since one of their beloved distractions may be moving away.

4.) Oscars Producer says Chris Rock is re-writing opening monologue

http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/oscars-producer-chris-rock-rewriting-opening-monologue-amid/story?id=36485151

The problem presented in this article is that of the white washing of the Oscars. again. Chris Rock was initially expected to not speak amidst the controversy but instead has chosen the re write a speech. This'll be fun

The problem presented, or at least danced around, in this article is how the media doesnt want non whites to garner attention for their work

The people who suffer most from this are the kids of colour who watch these things and see no one that looks like them. No representation. That could really harm someones self esteem

5.)Disturbing images of the mold, mushrooms, and bullet holes in Detroit's schools that led to teachers' massive 'sickout'

http://www.businessinsider.com/detroit-public-schools-teachers-say-schools-are-unsafe-2016-1

The problem presented in this article are the deplorable conditions of school in Detroit. A group of teachers called in sick to draw attention to it, and it worked. The schools have mushrooms in classrooms, food that looks like it could kill, and just over all horrible conditions

The people who suffer the most from this are the kids who are subconsciously creating the framework for their whole life and have an environment that could kill them to do it in. Not only is it physically jarring in the moment but it could put insane stress on the parasympathetic nervous system in the long run.

Very short interview No.1 A new day

My entrepreneur of choice is Jamie Day. He was my Theory of Knowledge teacher in 11th and 12th grade and is overall a well-rounded, level headed fellow. His accolades that class him as an entrepreneur are many and detailed, but I herald him for being the only man aside from my father who independently owns property in downtown St.Pete.

B-What does it mean to be an Entrepreneur?

J- Whatever you take it upon yourself to forge meaning of. Calling yourself an entrepreneur is an easy enough thing to do, you then have to adopt the mindset of being warm and open with everyone you come across and hopefully with time whatever you're focusing on or passionate about will come into view and align itself with all the thoughts bouncing around behind your forehead. You just have to have the agency to do, and seem very strange in doing so, if you're doing it right at least.

B-What do you think I should learn in this course?

J- Well you've heard me say it before, school is mainly just a medium to get you around people and help you to refine your social skills. So hopefully that. Hopefully some tips on how to maneuver the financial world and background knowledge about how to get what you want. It's a wide subject to condense but there's plenty to teach that could apply to it.

B-What is your crowing achievement as an Entrepreneur in your opinion?

J- My kids. They've made me enough money to stop what i'm doing whenever I please.

I was elated to see Jamie again. Theory of Knowledge was a favourite class of mine in high school and I love his personality. It was a good excuse to go back. I was shocked to see he cut off his ponytail. I learned, or remembered rather, that as long as you have the right mindset and are smiling, you can do pretty much whatever.

World's Biggest Problems

Climate Change- The most urgent product of our mistreatment of the earth
Stop using fossil fuels, switch to one of the other abundant sources of fuel the earth affords us. Maybe kill less cows. Turn lights off. Proper education on how to lessen your footprint.

Ignorance/Hate- The product of poor education and mistreatment of young people. They then carry this with them and it propagates.
Education from a young age. Not having kids if you aren't ready to put their growth and proper education above your own. Spread love especially to people that are angry and lashing out.

Hunger- When people don't have food
Stop taxing countries for their food yield. Allow everyone to grow their own food and sell it with minimal politics to have to work around. Distribute food and wealth in a more responsible way.

Lack of access to clean water- When people cant drink clean water or even water that looks clean. A basic human right that is suppressed for money.
Work on ways to purify salt water. Work on ways to distribute water or purification systems to poorer countries.

Mass Extinction of species- A phenomena cause by humans and our rapidly worsening treatment of the world leading to drastic changes that are difficult for many species to keep up with.
Stop acting like the planet is ours. Be responsible and stop throwing our dangerous toys around like children. Take only what we need. Learn to share.

Racism- Tailored ignorance, a belief that melanin differences hold any ground as to who a person is.
This deserves a seperate categorization from general hate. This is learned in individual family units and as a result will be difficult to unlearn. But proper education and encouragement to spread the idea can wipe it out over time. Complacency is dangerous.

Mistreatment of animals- Purposefully causing suffering to living creatures in order to slightly increase the yield or cost effectiveness of the yield of whatever we deign to harvest from them.
Stop torturing and raping animals before eating them. Or at least let people know whats going on on farms and let them make educated choices.

How we aren't going into space- People being too focused on monetary gain and control on our planet to focus resources on exploring a universe that could yield amazing advancements.
Stop being afraid of getting wiped out. Stop being afraid of allocating resources for something other than war and short term gain. Change our mindset to be forward thinking self serving organisms.

Deforestation - Killing trees for money and power. Displacing animals from their homes. Humans too.
Use the abundance of land that is not covered in trees for industry. Lessen dependency on paper. recycle more. protest companies that do this with reckless abandon and assume there will be no consequence.

Rape culture and ignoring it- Pretending that the treatment of woman by certain undesirables is in any way related to the individual herself and her actions or appearance.
Educate kids. Call out people who do this. Don't be silent. take affirmative action and make the behavior be represented in media properly, as disgusting and inexcusable.

Week 2 reading reflection

So the first thing to note was the confusing aspect of the reading. It was rather mechanical and focused on definitions in my opinion, at least for a book about a dynamic subject such as this. Although one would be hard pressed to write about something more fluid in a textbook. I dont think this was a wrong move necessarily as it's chapter one and a baseline should be laid to the best of ones abilities, but it threw me off a little.

An initial question I had in regards to ethics; where should one draw the line as far as allocating resources and pushing forward?

Would the author recommend we even work with in or pay any mind to these guidelines that were described, seeing as what we create, whatever it may be, should be sort of a visceral product and done through our discretion as budding Entrepreneurs.

The biggest thing that stuck out to me was how complicated they attempted to make such a simple mindset.

Bug list word 2 Weevil Underwood

Lets get right to it shall we

  • My Entrepreneurship class is making me focus on negative aspects of my life: Because you want me to look at life in a way that I already do
  • I try to think positive all the time in order you yield positive reactions out of my days and whenever I fall into a negative mindset it's difficult to break: Depression pretty much
  • It's colder here than in St.Pete where i'm from, so it's more difficult to run without getting(or keeping) a runny nose: cold wind blowing in my face
  • I have responsibilities now so I have less time for leisure: "adultolescence"
  • I STILL cannot fly:???
  • My roommates don't leave their pots and pans on the stove so I also don't and it's an extra couple seconds whenever I make stuff:because i'm polite and courteous
  • Im not in Brazil:school
  • Acai smoothie packs are 7$ here as opposed to 5$ at home:capitalism
  • My dog isn't at school with me this year: Because my mom needs him more
  • I'm still hearing about Trump from people: Just ignore him and he'll go away don't give him more press c'mon
  • I cant put a blanket over my window so it's still bright in here in the daytime: Probably a sign for me to get outside more and stop being a hermit/the walls are too think to use push pins
  • I left playstation at home:To be more productive
  • I cant keep a relationship going for too long with people: because I psychoanalyze them and they get angry at me and their flaws.
  • I cant focus on any piano melody anymore without hearing another one and just playing that one: attention span of a squirrel
  • I spelled melody "meledy" just now in the above bullet: I'd hope it's because i'm not paying attention.
  • There are too many cooking supplies to buy and it's overwhelming so I just get frozen stuff to bake: Money is dangerous
  • I cant think of twenty things to complain about: optimist
  • I ran out of crackers before I ran out of spinach sour cream dip so now I have to eat it with my fingers: This is actually ok.
  • There are these really cool "bark thins" at Rollin oats in my hometown and I cant get them here: Because Trader Joes and earth origins aren't on their game
  • Trader Joe's hasn't hired me yet: Paperwork n stuff
So in retrospect, I dont let much bother me. Worrying is pointless just flow with the entropy and chaos of the world you'll be fine.

My Entrepreneur Story

One Entrepreneur who has influenced my life significantly is Jamie Day. He was my ToK teacher in 11th and 12th grade and someone who may be featured on here more frequently as an excuse to talk to him again. He's the only person besides my dad to independently own buildings in downtown St.Pete, my home city. He influenced my way of thinking quite a bit. He was the first person to stress methods of thinking and being aware of ones on thought process in a classroom setting, which validated it in a way for me.

This of course relates heavily to entrepreneurship as it focuses on the disposition one develops and the perspective lens through which one views life. He stressed getting to know oneself before embarking on anything that can be construed as a career as you are by far your most important asset. He also stressed how its much more difficult than any of us then 11th graders understood it to be, finding oneself.

I hope to just continue to learn about the world through this class, maybe meet some interesting people, gather some perspectives, gain confidence in myself as an entrepreneur.
