Top Five World Problems

List One:
1.) Lack of access to clean water. This is a basic Human need. The most basic. It needs to be addressed for the people to have enough energy to go about their individual lives, which would then benefit all of society in ways no one can understand since all this potential brilliance is being starved out.
2.) Hunger. A close contender to water, but the same area of importance. The same implications.
3.) Ignorance/hate. "The biggest problem in the universe is no one helps each other"-Anakin Skywalker, episode one.
4.)Climate Change. This can only still be reversed for a small time longer. It'd be nice to have a planet still.
5.) Mistreatment of animals. Animals are living things. We cant stop at just treating people right, for the people to be happy and ok with themselves love has to be spread indefinitely, and to everything, sentient or not. Sentient is a good place to start.

List Two
1.) Literally just start allocating resources for space travel. It's as simple as a redirection of interest. Stop fighting each other and fight the unknown. That's what most of us are really scared of anyway.
2.) Use land not covered in bush for industry. Lessen dependence on paper. It's also a simple transition and a lessening of greed that would improve the quality of life for everyone, even those who lose monetary benefits from implementing it.
3.) Get clean water to people. Water isn't too difficult to purify anymore. It isn't too difficult to get a hold of. With some organization, we could get it to the places where it is difficult to get a hold of.
4.)Get food, and food that wont kill them, to people. Food can be stored inexpensively in third world countries thanks to improvements in technology. Now just to get it there.
5.) Educate people on rape culture and how silence is just as bad as being an aggressor. Complacency is dangerous. Education is not too difficult of a task, show people the benefits of not being a bad person, and many will fall in line.

Week 3 Reading Reflection

My biggest surprise was that technically by what was said, i fit under a type A personality almost as much as under a type B personality, with my talking fast and sense of urgency for time.

The idea of unrealistic optimism kind of confused me. I understand certain ideas wont be able to get off the ground easily but I feel mostly everything can be done if you have society on your side(which is the hard part) and have the resourcefulness to go make it happen.

Two questions for the author:
1.) Do you have any advice on how to balance the desire for profit/risk and activity factor. Tips on opportunity cost? Correlation studies showing wealth and happiness?

2.)What would be your idea of unrealistic optimism in a new venture?

I guess I disagree on the possibility of being unrealistic or that that eventuality could be a bad thing. If anything it could open new doors for everyone. No one knows everything, there's much to be proven wrong.

Identifying Local Opportunities

1.)Dogs Patronize Gainesville restaurants, never pick up tab.

http://www.gainesville.com/article/20160121/ARTICLES/160129926/1003/NEWS?Title=Dogs-patronize-Gainesville-restaurants-never-pick-up-tab

The article describes the growing trend to allow dogs, and other animals, into diners here despite it being illegal under state law. It gets into anecdotal cases of pet loving, and possible repercussions of jumping the gun and letting dogs in before a permit is obtained.

The problem in the story is all the paperwork and money needed for a perfectly good dog to live it's life and eat in a fine dining establishment.

I think its the dogs. Sure the restaurants assume all of the risk and have to do all the work, but it's unfortunate that dogs cant just show up at chipotle and get a burrito.

2.)As Mexican frustrations rise, so does number of lynchings

http://www.tampabay.com/news/world/as-mexican-frustrations-rise-so-does-number-of-lynchings/2262560

The article speaks on lynchings carried out on two brothers who were conducting a survey in a town in mexico.

The problem is violence stemming from stereotypes and fear.

The Mexican people, and the brothers who were killed.

3.)St.Petersburg approves proposal that allows the rays to consider stadium sites outside the area.

http://www.tampabay.com/news/localgovernment/live-now-st-pete-city-council-discusses-rays-plan-at-special-meeting/2250870

This article is controversial around my hometown because people love having the option to go somewhere close and watch men hit a ball with a stick IN PERSON rather than from their home. The rays might be based elsewhere than tropicana and no one is ready for it

The problem is a franchise being given freedom to do what they want

The people of St.Petersburg are presented with the real problem since one of their beloved distractions may be moving away.

4.) Oscars Producer says Chris Rock is re-writing opening monologue

http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/oscars-producer-chris-rock-rewriting-opening-monologue-amid/story?id=36485151

The problem presented in this article is that of the white washing of the Oscars. again. Chris Rock was initially expected to not speak amidst the controversy but instead has chosen the re write a speech. This'll be fun

The problem presented, or at least danced around, in this article is how the media doesnt want non whites to garner attention for their work

The people who suffer most from this are the kids of colour who watch these things and see no one that looks like them. No representation. That could really harm someones self esteem

5.)Disturbing images of the mold, mushrooms, and bullet holes in Detroit's schools that led to teachers' massive 'sickout'

http://www.businessinsider.com/detroit-public-schools-teachers-say-schools-are-unsafe-2016-1

The problem presented in this article are the deplorable conditions of school in Detroit. A group of teachers called in sick to draw attention to it, and it worked. The schools have mushrooms in classrooms, food that looks like it could kill, and just over all horrible conditions

The people who suffer the most from this are the kids who are subconsciously creating the framework for their whole life and have an environment that could kill them to do it in. Not only is it physically jarring in the moment but it could put insane stress on the parasympathetic nervous system in the long run.

Very short interview No.1 A new day

My entrepreneur of choice is Jamie Day. He was my Theory of Knowledge teacher in 11th and 12th grade and is overall a well-rounded, level headed fellow. His accolades that class him as an entrepreneur are many and detailed, but I herald him for being the only man aside from my father who independently owns property in downtown St.Pete.

B-What does it mean to be an Entrepreneur?

J- Whatever you take it upon yourself to forge meaning of. Calling yourself an entrepreneur is an easy enough thing to do, you then have to adopt the mindset of being warm and open with everyone you come across and hopefully with time whatever you're focusing on or passionate about will come into view and align itself with all the thoughts bouncing around behind your forehead. You just have to have the agency to do, and seem very strange in doing so, if you're doing it right at least.

B-What do you think I should learn in this course?

J- Well you've heard me say it before, school is mainly just a medium to get you around people and help you to refine your social skills. So hopefully that. Hopefully some tips on how to maneuver the financial world and background knowledge about how to get what you want. It's a wide subject to condense but there's plenty to teach that could apply to it.

B-What is your crowing achievement as an Entrepreneur in your opinion?

J- My kids. They've made me enough money to stop what i'm doing whenever I please.

I was elated to see Jamie again. Theory of Knowledge was a favourite class of mine in high school and I love his personality. It was a good excuse to go back. I was shocked to see he cut off his ponytail. I learned, or remembered rather, that as long as you have the right mindset and are smiling, you can do pretty much whatever.

World's Biggest Problems

Climate Change- The most urgent product of our mistreatment of the earth
Stop using fossil fuels, switch to one of the other abundant sources of fuel the earth affords us. Maybe kill less cows. Turn lights off. Proper education on how to lessen your footprint.

Ignorance/Hate- The product of poor education and mistreatment of young people. They then carry this with them and it propagates.
Education from a young age. Not having kids if you aren't ready to put their growth and proper education above your own. Spread love especially to people that are angry and lashing out.

Hunger- When people don't have food
Stop taxing countries for their food yield. Allow everyone to grow their own food and sell it with minimal politics to have to work around. Distribute food and wealth in a more responsible way.

Lack of access to clean water- When people cant drink clean water or even water that looks clean. A basic human right that is suppressed for money.
Work on ways to purify salt water. Work on ways to distribute water or purification systems to poorer countries.

Mass Extinction of species- A phenomena cause by humans and our rapidly worsening treatment of the world leading to drastic changes that are difficult for many species to keep up with.
Stop acting like the planet is ours. Be responsible and stop throwing our dangerous toys around like children. Take only what we need. Learn to share.

Racism- Tailored ignorance, a belief that melanin differences hold any ground as to who a person is.
This deserves a seperate categorization from general hate. This is learned in individual family units and as a result will be difficult to unlearn. But proper education and encouragement to spread the idea can wipe it out over time. Complacency is dangerous.

Mistreatment of animals- Purposefully causing suffering to living creatures in order to slightly increase the yield or cost effectiveness of the yield of whatever we deign to harvest from them.
Stop torturing and raping animals before eating them. Or at least let people know whats going on on farms and let them make educated choices.

How we aren't going into space- People being too focused on monetary gain and control on our planet to focus resources on exploring a universe that could yield amazing advancements.
Stop being afraid of getting wiped out. Stop being afraid of allocating resources for something other than war and short term gain. Change our mindset to be forward thinking self serving organisms.

Deforestation - Killing trees for money and power. Displacing animals from their homes. Humans too.
Use the abundance of land that is not covered in trees for industry. Lessen dependency on paper. recycle more. protest companies that do this with reckless abandon and assume there will be no consequence.

Rape culture and ignoring it- Pretending that the treatment of woman by certain undesirables is in any way related to the individual herself and her actions or appearance.
Educate kids. Call out people who do this. Don't be silent. take affirmative action and make the behavior be represented in media properly, as disgusting and inexcusable.

Week 2 reading reflection

So the first thing to note was the confusing aspect of the reading. It was rather mechanical and focused on definitions in my opinion, at least for a book about a dynamic subject such as this. Although one would be hard pressed to write about something more fluid in a textbook. I dont think this was a wrong move necessarily as it's chapter one and a baseline should be laid to the best of ones abilities, but it threw me off a little.

An initial question I had in regards to ethics; where should one draw the line as far as allocating resources and pushing forward?

Would the author recommend we even work with in or pay any mind to these guidelines that were described, seeing as what we create, whatever it may be, should be sort of a visceral product and done through our discretion as budding Entrepreneurs.

The biggest thing that stuck out to me was how complicated they attempted to make such a simple mindset.

Bug list word 2 Weevil Underwood

Lets get right to it shall we

  • My Entrepreneurship class is making me focus on negative aspects of my life: Because you want me to look at life in a way that I already do
  • I try to think positive all the time in order you yield positive reactions out of my days and whenever I fall into a negative mindset it's difficult to break: Depression pretty much
  • It's colder here than in St.Pete where i'm from, so it's more difficult to run without getting(or keeping) a runny nose: cold wind blowing in my face
  • I have responsibilities now so I have less time for leisure: "adultolescence"
  • I STILL cannot fly:???
  • My roommates don't leave their pots and pans on the stove so I also don't and it's an extra couple seconds whenever I make stuff:because i'm polite and courteous
  • Im not in Brazil:school
  • Acai smoothie packs are 7$ here as opposed to 5$ at home:capitalism
  • My dog isn't at school with me this year: Because my mom needs him more
  • I'm still hearing about Trump from people: Just ignore him and he'll go away don't give him more press c'mon
  • I cant put a blanket over my window so it's still bright in here in the daytime: Probably a sign for me to get outside more and stop being a hermit/the walls are too think to use push pins
  • I left playstation at home:To be more productive
  • I cant keep a relationship going for too long with people: because I psychoanalyze them and they get angry at me and their flaws.
  • I cant focus on any piano melody anymore without hearing another one and just playing that one: attention span of a squirrel
  • I spelled melody "meledy" just now in the above bullet: I'd hope it's because i'm not paying attention.
  • There are too many cooking supplies to buy and it's overwhelming so I just get frozen stuff to bake: Money is dangerous
  • I cant think of twenty things to complain about: optimist
  • I ran out of crackers before I ran out of spinach sour cream dip so now I have to eat it with my fingers: This is actually ok.
  • There are these really cool "bark thins" at Rollin oats in my hometown and I cant get them here: Because Trader Joes and earth origins aren't on their game
  • Trader Joe's hasn't hired me yet: Paperwork n stuff
So in retrospect, I dont let much bother me. Worrying is pointless just flow with the entropy and chaos of the world you'll be fine.

My Entrepreneur Story

One Entrepreneur who has influenced my life significantly is Jamie Day. He was my ToK teacher in 11th and 12th grade and someone who may be featured on here more frequently as an excuse to talk to him again. He's the only person besides my dad to independently own buildings in downtown St.Pete, my home city. He influenced my way of thinking quite a bit. He was the first person to stress methods of thinking and being aware of ones on thought process in a classroom setting, which validated it in a way for me.

This of course relates heavily to entrepreneurship as it focuses on the disposition one develops and the perspective lens through which one views life. He stressed getting to know oneself before embarking on anything that can be construed as a career as you are by far your most important asset. He also stressed how its much more difficult than any of us then 11th graders understood it to be, finding oneself.

I hope to just continue to learn about the world through this class, maybe meet some interesting people, gather some perspectives, gain confidence in myself as an entrepreneur.

Im scatterbrained and enjoy passion and making smiles happen on dogs and humans and other animals that can smile.

Nice to meet you.

Here's an Entrepreneur for you all. One of my favourite humans. ZeFrank, who will most likely be mentioned in whatever medium we use to deliver information to school children in the future as the father of the modern video blog or something dramatic like that. genuine dude.
